Højby is located in the Danish north-west Zealand and is a small town with 1,459 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The place is about 6 kilometers west of Nykøbing Sjælland and is in the Odsherred municipality , which belongs to the Sjælland region. The place is the main town of the parish of the same name Højby Sogn .

The name "Højby" comes from the location of the place between several hills. In Højby Church, Højby Kirke , there are some very old frescoes. The Trundholm Sun Chariot was also found in the bog of the same name in the neighboring municipality of Nørre Asmindrup.

Højby is mentioned as a possible successor settlement to the legendary Høgekøbing .

The Runddysse of Højby is located on Stenstrupvej northwest of Højby.
