The Hüttenwerke Siegerland (HWS) was a German coal and steel company. It was initially a group of companies within the United Steelworks founded in 1926 . One focus of the group was sheet metal production. In the course of restructuring the group in 1933, among other things, Hüttenwerke Siegerland AG was established as an operating company. With the unbundling of the parent company, Vereinigte Stahlwerke, an independent group was created in 1952. This went on in the Hoesch group . Hoesch Siegerlandwerke AG was founded in 1969 as the management company. The remaining companies were incorporated into Hoesch Stahl AG in 1987 .

Part of the United Steel Works

In the course of the concentration process in the coal and steel industry , a number of companies in the Siegerland and the Sauerland came into the possession of larger corporations, particularly from the Ruhr area . With these they became part of the United Steel Works AG in 1926. In this they were combined to form the Siegerland group. In the following years, more companies were added. This included, for example, the Charlottenhütte headed by Friedrich Flick with associated subsidiaries and plants from the Stumm and Rombach groups . With the Charlottenhütte, their mine ownership, such as the Neue Haardt mine near Weidenau, as well as other pits near Eisern and those from the Altenkirchen district, came to the Siegerland group. This finally included the plant in Niederschelden , the Weidenau rolling mill, the Sieghütter Eisenwerk, the Eichener rolling mill with its subsidiaries in Kreuztal and Attendorn , the Ax, Schleifenbaum & Mattner company, the Siegener Eisenbahnbedarf company with various production sites, the Alfredshütte and the Wissen tinplate factory as well as the former Hüstener union .

In the course of a reorganization of the United Steel Works, legally independent operating companies were founded in 1933. In this context, the Hüttenwerke Siegerland AG was created. These included the Charlottenhütte, the blast furnace and tinplate works in Wissen, the Eichener rolling mill, the Hüsten works, the Nachrodt works , the Meggener rolling mills, the Attendorn works, the Weidenau works and a galvanizing plant in Aschaffenburg .

After the Second World War

In the course of the disengagement of the United Steel Works after the end of the Second World War , the previous Hüttenwerke Siegerland AG was also liquidated. Hüttenwerke Siegerland AG was founded as an independent company under the same name in 1952. In addition to the previous operations, Friedrichshütte AG in Herdorf and Blechwaren- und Faßfabrik Eichen-Attendorn GmbH based in Kreuztal (later renamed Blefa, Blechwaren- und Fassfabrik GmbH) were added.

As early as 1957, 35% of the shares were transferred to Thyssen and 51.8% to Dortmund-Hörder Hüttenunion AG .

In the business year 1956/57 the share capital was 46 million DM. The turnover reached 468 million DM. The crude steel production amounted to 353,200 tons and the sheet metal production to 667,300 tons. Compared to the previous year, the share of sheet metal production in the Federal Republic of Germany fell from 12.2 to 10.8%. The workforce was 10,148.

The Dortmund-Hörder Hüttenunion also took over the shares from Thyssen in 1961 and now owned 86% of the shares in Siegerland Hüttenwerke. In 1966, Dortmund-Hörder Hüttenunion AG, the Dutch Koninklijke Nederlandsche Hoogovens en Staalfabrieken and Hoesch AG worked together. With this, the Siegerland Hüttenwerke actually became part of the Hoesch group. In 1969 the Siegerländer Hüttenwerke was legally incorporated into Hoesch AG as an operating management company and now operated under the name of Hoesch Siegerlandwerke AG. In 1973 this was merged with the Hoesch Trier rolling mills with operations in Dortmund , Hamm , Wuppertal , Hohenlimburg and Trier . In 1980 Siegener AG was added with several branches. This was followed in 1984 by the merger with Hoesch Hüttenwerke AG to form Hoesch Stahl AG, based in Dortmund.

The company archive of Hüttenwerke Siegerland AG is now located as F65 in the Westphalian Economic Archive in Dortmund.
