The HBE T 2 was a railcar of the Halberstadt-Blankenburg Railway (HBE). It was procured for operation on the company's network in order to reduce costs compared to steam trains with low occupancy rates and to offer a competitive means of transport by rail compared to bus traffic. The vehicle was the second railcar of the company mentioned. It was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn as VT 135 514 after 1949 . The vehicle was active until 1963. It is no longer there today.

HBE T 2

Since the Silbervogel had proven itself in operation, the Halberstadt-Blankenburg Railway Company wanted to procure several railcars for operation in times of low traffic. As a result of the global economic crisis , however, she was only granted one railcar, which was delivered by the Dessauer Waggonfabrik in 1934 . In contrast to the Silbervogel, the new railcar was equipped with a pulling and buffing device and was intended for operation with a trailer. For this purpose, an existing passenger car was converted into a sidecar for the railcar.

The team then provided service on the HBE network. The experience with him was positive, so that in 1938 a third railcar called the HBE T 3 was delivered. There is no information about missions during the Second World War , but it is certain that the vehicle will not have been converted to a drive with wood gasifier due to the route topography.

VT 135 514

After the war it was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn and designated as VT 135 514 . The vehicle was based in Blankenburg until 1960 and was then handed over to Aschersleben . There the vehicle suffered an accident, so it was parked. After a long period of storage it was taken out of service in 1967 and scrapped in Aschersleben in the same year.

Constructive features

The vehicle manufactured in Waggonbau Dessau and its dimensions similar to that of the WUMAG sketch sheet VT / A 3099 (see VT 135 521 ) had some major external differences compared to these vehicles. The front face with the headlights was designed differently, and the vehicle also had an additional loading area in the middle with a capacity of 2 m² including the middle loading door. The modified front is also noticeable compared to other vehicles manufactured by Waggonbau Dessau, such as the VT 135 531 .

Technically, the vehicle was equipped with the tried and tested equipment of the time. The machine system consisted of the Deutz diesel engine and the Mylius gearbox as mechanical power transmission .
