The HMAS Farncomb (SSG 74) is the second built submarine in the Australian Collins class .
The ship bears the name of the Australian Rear Admiral Harold Farncomb . Farncomb commanded several Allied warships and task forces during World War II .
The submarine was laid down in Osborne near Adelaide in 1991 and put into service in 1998.
