Technical data (see Taciturn class ) |
HMS Tabard (P342) was a submarine of the British Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Navy .
The submarine was only put into service after the end of the war, so it was no longer used in combat. Tabard belonged to the units of the T-Class, whose pressure hull was completely welded. In 1950/51 the boat was overhauled and modernized according to the Super T concept . In 1962 the Australian Navy took over the submarine. On May 8, 1963, she collided with the frigate HMAS Queenborough during an anti-submarine exercise . Both units suffered minor damage and were overhauled at Fleet Base East near Sydney .
The Tabard returned to Great Britain in 1969 and remained firmly moored in Gosport until 1974 . She served as a training boat for training submarine crews, making it the last British T-class boat in service with the Royal Navy. The last British boat of the class in active sea service was the HMS Tiptoe , which was decommissioned in 1969 .
The HMS Tabard was sold as scrap on January 2, 1974 and demolished in March of the same year.
