HMS Talent (P337) ( HMS Tasman (P337) ) was a submarine of the British Royal Navy .

Mission history

P337 was laid down at Vickers-Armstrong in Barrow on March 21, 1944 . The submarine was launched on February 13, 1945 under the originally planned name HMS Tasman . In April 1945 the boat was renamed HMS Talent and put into service on July 27, 1945. The first in command was Lieutenant Commander Richard Molyneux Favell. As a result of the late commissioning, the submarine was no longer used in combat.

The Royal Navy used the submarine until 1966. During this time it suffered two serious accidents. On December 15, 1954, HMS Talent was in distress when it was driven away when a dry dock flooded at Chatham . The drifting boat could only be secured on the following day due to the heavy swell and the thick fog. Four sailors were killed in the accident. The damaged submarine was overhauled in 1955. On May 8, 1956, the submarine was damaged again in a collision off the Isle of Wight when surfacing.

HMS Talent was scrapped in Troon in 1970.

Remarks

  1. HMS is the abbreviation for His / Her Majesty's Ship and the name prefix of British ships. HMS means His / Her Majesty's Ship , see also Talent .
  2. The name HMS Talent was intended for three T-class submarines . Talent (I) ( P322 ) was handed over to the Dutch Navy in 1943 and was given the name Zwaardvisch . Talent (II) (P343) was supposed to be named instead, but was not built because the building contract was canceled. Talent (III) (P337) was originally launched under the name HMS Tasman and was renamed HMS Talent in April 1945 .
