Haageocereus tenuis is a species of plant in the genus Haageocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet tenuis means 'thin, delicate'.

description

Haageocereus tenuis grows with prostrate and creeping green shoots that reach 1.5 to 3 centimeters in diameter. There are twelve to 15 wavy ribs on which there are silver-gray areoles that are close together. The seven to ten strong central spines are brownish to black and up to 2 inches long. The approximately 30 white to brownish radial spines have a length of 2 to 3 millimeters.

The funnel-shaped, white flowers reach a length of up to 10 centimeters and a diameter of up to 4.3 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with long, white hair . The elongated, pink-red fruits have a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters and are 1.7 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Haageocereus tenuis is distributed in Peru in the Lima between Chancay and Huacho on migrating sand dunes at altitudes of 200 to 250 meters.

It was first described in 1981 by Friedrich Ritter . A synonym is Haageocereus decumbens subsp. tenuis (F.Ritter) DRHunt (2002).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
