The Port of Barrow is the port of the city of Barrow-in-Furness , Cumbria in England . The Morecambe Bay is southeast of the harbor and the Irish Sea encircles them in the south and west. The port is currently owned by Associated British Ports Holdings , which also operates it. Small parts of the port area belong to BAE Systems Submarine Solutions .

The port is largely a docking port , i.e. that is, it lies behind a lock and its water level is not influenced by the tides . There are six docks in the port area: Devonshire Dock, Buccleuch Dock, Ramsden Dock and Anchor Line Base are behind the lock (Ramsden Dock Lock), the Ramsden Dock Basin is outside and is the entrance to the lock. There is a RoRo system here. The Cavendish Dock is also located in the port area, which is a water reservoir that is not used as a port. On the banks of the Walney Channel, there are former moorings outside the lock.

The port is the only deep water port on the west coast of the United Kingdom between the port of Liverpool and the port of Glasgow . Barrow Harbor has built over 800 ships throughout its history and is now the only place where submarines are built in Britain. The port has an important role in the nuclear plant of Sellafield , the power plant of Roosecote, the gas terminal of Rampside and offshore wind farms Barrow and Ormonde . The port of Barrow is also used by cruise ships.
