The port of Odessa ( Ukrainian Одеський морський торговельний порт / English 'Port of Odessa' or 'Odessa Marine Trade Port' (OMTP)) is considered the largest Ukrainian seaport and one of the largest ports on the Black Sea .

It has an annual capacity of about 40 million tons of bulk and 25 million tons of liquid bulk (bulk liquids). The port has a connection to the railway network . The port of Chornomorsk (1958) and the southern port of Odessa, opened in 1973, also belong to the OMTP .

The passenger terminal was used by around 4 million passengers in 2007.

The port is located on the west bank of Odessa Bay.

The Ukraina shipyard is located roughly in the middle of the port facilities . In the northern part there are large terminals for oil and gas; in the southern part is a smaller oil terminal in the middle of a container terminal .

Passenger terminal

Five ships can moor at this terminal at the same time. The total length of the piers is 1370 m. The water depth at the piers is between 9.5 and 11.5 meters; berthing ships can be up to 300 m long.

There are parking spaces at the terminal that are guarded around the clock. In addition to bars, the building complex has a multi-purpose hall for concerts and exhibitions, an anchor museum, a museum with an exhibition on the Black Sea Fleet of Ukraine , a marina for yachts, a diving base , St. Nicholas Church, a four-star hotel, restaurants and more .

Container terminal

HPC Ukraina , a subsidiary of HHLA , has been operating the Container Terminal Odessa (CTO) since 2001 . The container throughput in 2012 was just over 329,000  TEUs (2011: 311,000 TEUs).

Terminal for oil and gas

This terminal is the largest in Ukraine; it is often called the 'OMTP Oil District'. He has six berths . In the vicinity are large tanks, for example from “Eksimnaftoprodukt” (the import and export organization of the former Soviet Union ), “Odesnaftoprodukt”, “Synthes Oil” (a partner company of Eksimnaftoprodukt) and a complex of “Ukrloadsystem” (there is liquefied gas stored). Tankers with a capacity of 1,000 to 100,000 tons can dock at the terminal . The piers and the tank farm are connected by pipelines ; the tanks have rail connections and devices with which the tank wagons can be loaded and unloaded.

Two of the terminal's piers (# 4 and # 7) are specially designed for natural gas ( propane , butane ); Nearby tanks hold 6,000 m 3 . Up to 700,000 tons of LNG ( liquefied natural gas ) can be handled annually.

The total oil and gas terminal has an annual capacity of 25,500,000 tons, of which 700,000 tons are compressed gas.

The port has a facility for the purification / treatment of ballast water .

Shipyard Ukraina

The shipyard was founded in 1793 at the instigation of the admiralty of the then Russian Black Sea Fleet (Odessa was laid out in 1794 on the instructions of Catherine the Great at the fortress conquered in 1789).

The shipyard has an area of ​​75,524 square meters; it is suitable for ships with a displacement of up to 30,000 tons. The piers are altogether 1230 m long; 570 m of this is for ship maintenance. The water depth in front of the piers is up to 7.1 m. Six gantry cranes can each carry 10 to 30 tons; another self-propelled crane can lift 100 tons.
