The Hagenriede is a 3 km long right inlet to the Schunter in the Braunschweig district of Hondelage . Its source streams arise in the state forest of Braunschweig northeast of Hondelage.

geography

The headwaters of the Hagenriede are located southwest of the area of the Braunschweig State Forest, which is mapped as Steinberg , near Groß Brunsrode . At least three streams flow through small ponds and collect finally in the slightly larger Weidensool pond in the forest area High Wood . Its discharge is given in the water quality report of the NLWKN as the beginning of the Hagenriede ( 52 ° 20 '28 "  N , 10 ° 38" 5 "  E ). It runs in a south-westerly direction to the edge of the forest, where it is crossed by the state road 639 Wendhausen - Essenrode . There it enters open arable land, which is bordered in the north by the Wöhren forest area . Church foundations of the deserted Hegersdorf area have been verified in this area .

The stream soon turns south, reaches the Braunschweig urban area and flows to the monastery meadow . There a renatured, meandering section passes the approximately 200 meter long pond of the same name. At its southern end, the Hagenriede bends to the west, takes up several ditches and shortly afterwards turns back to the south. In largely renatured, planted and flooded sections, it runs very straight to the eastern edge of Hondelage, where it is crossed by state road 635. South of the road, it strives through the Haagenwiesen to Schunter without bends .

Regarding the naming, reference is made to the word ending -riede , which is a synonym for Bach.

Water quality

The water quality was examined by the NLWKN in 2002 within the entire Outer catchment area. Even then, successfully implemented renaturation measures were mentioned and the water quality class was rated II-III. The water structure quality was examined in 2010 by the Institute for Geoecology of the Technical University of Braunschweig on behalf of the Braunschweig municipal drainage system for the 3,066 meter long stream in the Braunschweig urban area. Here, too, reference is made to the bank planting with alder and sloe trees as well as the more advanced renaturation measures, which in many areas promote the natural dynamism of the stream. The overall character is rated as very close to nature.
