history

Around 1226, the noble family of Brunsrode was first mentioned, which was based in the village until its extinction around 1400. It had land and farms from the noblemen of Meinersen as a fief. The von Brunrode sat in a saddle yard behind Brunsrode Castle , which was under the feudal sovereignty of the Lüneburg Welfs .

In 1634 Julius Freiherr von Bülow received the fiefdom of Groß Brunsrode as thanks for his services during the Thirty Years' War . The castle was later replaced by an estate. Between 1634 and 1976 the von Bülow lords had church patronage . Groß Brunsrode was an independent municipality. On July 1, 1972, she was incorporated into the teaching congregation. In the course of the regional reform, teaching changed on March 1, 1974 from the Braunschweig district to the Helmstedt district. In 1989 the estate was sold to a private person. The center of the village is characterized by numerous large farms and the neo-Romanesque village church.
