history
The water castle of the same name , which Rudolf von Hagenwil bequeathed to the St. Gallen monastery , stood in Hagenwil by 1264 at the latest . After several changes of ownership and inheritance, the castle and rule of Hagenwil were owned by the Lords of Bernhausen from 1504 to 1684 . The church was consecrated for the first time in 1495. The parish of Hagenwil was closely connected to the rulership and originally also included Räuchlisberg and Muolen . During the Reformation in 1529, the village adopted the Evangelical faith, but returned to the old faith in 1536. After the abolition of the St. Gallen monastery, the castle, which had been rebuilt in 1786, came into the possession of the Angehrn family in 1806, who still run an inn there today.
