The Hagerbeck is a 719 meter long stream and right tributary of the Wupper in the Wuppertal district of Uellendahl-Katernberg . The tautology Hagerbecker Bach is occasionally used for the name of the flowing water ( Beck is the Low German word for Bach.)

topography

The stream rises at around 282 meters above sea level in the Uellendahl-Katernberg district south of the Dönberg district . From its source it initially flows in a north-easterly direction and receives an inlet after about 170 meters from the left, and another 120 meters from the left. It receives a third inlet on the left about 308 meters after the source. 410 meters behind the source, the Hagerbeck reaches a pond of around 6200 square meters, which it feeds. The stream runs south of the pond in an easterly direction.

The Hagerbeck reaches a built-up area 570 meters from the source and is piped on, here it crosses under Dönberger Straße . After a further 100 meters, the stream turns in a southerly direction and is piped around 20 meters further from the right through the 354-meter-long Hager Siefen . After 718 meters from the source, the Hagerbeck flows into the Hager Bach , a tributary of the Mirker Bach, at around 248 meters above sea level .

natural reserve

The twelve hectare nature reserve includes the catchment areas of the source streams between the street Am Langen Bruch and the Dönberger Straße . Since 2005, mainly the water-rich grassland areas that are not accessible by paths and the large pond on the farm “Auf'm Hagen” on Dönberger Straße have been recorded . The three source streams rising west of the street Am Langen Bruch are also part of the protected area. Protection took place

  • for the preservation and development of the existing biotope complexes as a refuge and regeneration area for animal and plant species bound to humid locations
  • to maintain a near-natural, locally significant river system with typical river fauna and near-natural riparian trees
  • to preserve the structural wealth of the grassland complex with wet and wet grassland, springs, spring meadows and old ponds, natural woody plants such as hedges, tree hedges, field trees, orchards and small beech forests with old wood
  • to maintain the connection function between Hohenhager Bachtal and Heidacker Bach
  • for reasons of local history and because of the special nature of the culturally and historically significant structures with old hedges and paths

The following characteristic species that require special protection have been observed: the common redstart , the pied flycatcher , the blindworm and the golden eight butterfly . The large pond was recognized as a breeding ground for mountain , pond and newt newt , common toad , common frog and the feather dragonfly.
