The Haidersee ( Italian: Lago di San Valentino alla Muta ) is located at 1,450 meters above sea level in the Vinschgau or Vinschger Oberland , the highest section of the Adige Valley in South Tyrol . It is located south of the Reschen Pass, directly at the village of St. Valentin on the Haide . The lake, located in the municipality of Graun in Vinschgau, has a surface of 89 hectares , a maximum depth of 15 meters and a volume of around six million cubic meters. There is a Nordic walking and hiking trail on the shoreline. The main inflow of the Haidersee is via the Etsch , which is channeled from the Reschensee ( reservoir ), and the Zerzer Bach, which flows down from the Zerz high valley, which flows in from the southwest .
Motorboat driving is prohibited on the Haidersee, which means that fuel-powered outboard motors are not allowed on the lake. However, electric motors are allowed.
The Haidersee is a popular lake for ice sailors and snow kiters. The lake usually freezes over by the end of November. Cycling and hiking along the shore or on a 4.5 kilometer Nordic walking route is possible. There are opportunities for sailing and kite surfing on the lake.
