Haidnian antiquities

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Haidnian antiquities. Literature of the 18th and 19th centuries is the name of a series of books published by Verlag Zweiausendeins .

Arno Schmidt was not only an important author of German-language post - war literature , but also a rediscoverer of lost and forgotten authors of the 18th and 19th centuries, whom he began to present in his original and now legendary radio dialogues and essays . Many of these texts ended with a complaint about the degenerate literature business, which is only interested in the canon of classical authors, and almost all of them lead to the request to the publishers to reissue the recommended works.

In 1978 Hans-Michael Bock began to reissue these “favorite books” by Arno Schmidt at Verlag Zweiausendeins , and gave this series the title Haidnian Antiquities . Each volume was edited by an expert for the respective field and contained a reliable text and a detailed afterword, which made up a separate volume for some texts. The style-defining equipment came from the manufacturer Franz Greno . Arno Schmidt himself commented on the book series in his fragment of the novel Julia, or on the paintings with the words “… meritorious series, the 2001…”.
