Haiger Moor natural monument

The place Haig is not only known for its small castle and its gastronomy, it also hides, hidden behind the sports field, a special biotope, which is protected as a natural monument, the Haiger Moor, a silting transition moor. It is home to dragonflies , cranberries , millet sedge, and other moisture-loving plants and animals. The Haiger Moor is cleared at regular intervals in order to preserve the moor character. The owner is the Bund Naturschutz, which received the moor as part of a compensatory measure for the construction of the 380 kv line nearby.
