Haimo Leopold Handl (born September 15, 1948 in Feldkirch , Vorarlberg ; † May 24, 2019 in Mistelbach , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian publisher and writer .

Life

Haimo L. Handl studied political science at the University of Vienna and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and completed a doctorate in journalism and communication studies at the University of Vienna. From 1976 to 1977 he worked as a photographer for the magazine Löwenmaul published by Gerald Graßl. Handl worked as a consultant, project manager and in quality management. From 1982 to 2003 he was a lecturer at the Institute for Journalism and Communication Studies and at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Vienna.

Between 1997 and 2009 he acted as publisher and editor-in-chief of the politically and culturally oriented online magazine Zitig ( ISSN  1999-2815 ). As an editor at Kultur-Online, he published a weekly column from 2004 to 2016 as well as articles on culture and literature. In 2008 Handl founded the educational and cultural association balance, which operates across borders.

At the end of 2008, Handl founded the small publishing house Driesch, which publishes a small literary niche program. Between 2010 and 2014, the publisher published the eponymous magazine for literature & culture ( ISSN  2078-6433 ), which published prose, poetry and essays in all languages ​​(non-German texts with German translation). There were also book reviews and graphics.

Haimo L. Handl lived in Vienna and Drösing in the Lower Austrian Weinviertel . In addition to educational work, his main focus was on literature and publishing. He was a member of the Graz authors' assembly and the Podium literature group .

Haimo L. Handl died after a long period of cancer on May 24, 2019 at 4:30 a.m. in the state hospital in Mistelbach , Lower Austria .
