Franz Paul Hamberger founded the company in the Stephanskirchen district of Ziegelberg in 1866 . In addition to the match production, a brickworks and later a sawmill were built - initially to cover their own needs . After a fire, the brickworks division was discontinued in 1968 and with the fall of the ignition goods monopoly in 1983, the production of matches was also discontinued . From 1868 to the early 1920s, the Hamberger Ölfabrik produced not only truck greases and technical fats and oils, but also “Hamberger Schuhwichse”. In the inflation year 1923 this line of business was discontinued. The Hamberger hardwood clothespins are also no longer produced today. It is not known exactly in which period these were manufactured. In 1912, another company division was set up with the manufacture of toilet seats. Today's word mark HARO - made up of HA mberger and RO senheim - was registered as a trademark at the German Reich Patent Office in 1927 .

The diversification of the product range was promoted in 1950 with the multi-layer parquet division and the word mark “HARO parquet” was registered as a trademark. In 1958 the flooring production was expanded to include sports floors and in 1987 laminate floors were added.

In 1976 the first HARO DIY store was opened on Ziegelberg, which was followed by two more stores in Rosenheim and Raubling in the following years .

The existing hydropower plant on the Sims was supplemented by a steam power plant in 1935 in order to cover the energy demand. There are now two modern block -type thermal power stations that use wood waste from the sawmill and soil production to generate electricity and heat. In addition to supplying one's own company, electricity is also fed into the public grid (sufficient for around 20,000 households). In 2016 a modern hydropower plant was installed and put into operation.

In the years 1936 and 1978 the softwood sawmill was rebuilt in order to increase the capacity. In 1998 it was converted to hardwood. In 2007 a second sawmill was put into operation in Kleinostheim near Aschaffenburg , but it was closed again in 2017 due to the lower demand for local beech wood.

In the course of internationalization, sales companies were founded in Austria , France , Spain , Switzerland , India , the USA , Russia and Italy . Since 2003 Hamberger has also been operating a production plant for toilet seats in Sevlievo, Bulgaria, and since 2012 another toilet seat plant in Kunshan, China, near Shanghai .

Today the company is run in the fourth and fifth generation by Peter Hamberger and Peter M. Hamberger. With around 2,650 employees worldwide, around 325 million euros are converted annually. The Hamberger Group consists of a total of 21 legally independent companies - nine of them abroad.

Divisions

The Hamberger group of companies is divided into four independent and largely legally independent business areas. In addition to the Hamberger Flooring (floor coverings) and Hamberger Sanitary (toilet seats) divisions, Hamberger Industriewerke also includes the Hamberger Retail ( OBI hardware store) and agriculture and forestry (Gut Filzenhof) divisions.

Hamberger Flooring

Hamberger Flooring produces hard floor coverings for home use, for commercial use and sports facilities at the company's Stephanskirchen location.

Hamberger Sanitary

Hamberger Sanitary is the largest manufacturer of toilet seats in Europe. The various product lines from Hamberger Sanitary are tailored for home use (Homeline) and for use in public areas, such as care facilities (Careline).

Hamberger Retail

The three HARO hardware stores ( Ziegelberg , Rosenheim , Raubling ) are another pillar within the Hamberger group of companies as Hamberger Retail. Hamberger has been an OBI franchisee since 1982 .

Hamberger agriculture and forestry

Since 1916 the company has had its own farm, Gut Filzenhof. Initially, the company devoted itself to raising dairy cattle to care for its own employees in the barren war years and in the mid-seventies switched to the fattening of young bulls. Meat and sausage products are marketed directly via the farm shop at Gut Filzenhof. In addition, the company is also directly connected to the raw material wood through its own forestry operation.

Social and corporate engagement

The company supports various charitable causes in the Rosenheim district . In 2009, in cooperation with the Bavarian Center for Prevention and Health Promotion and AOK Bayern, a company health management system was implemented at Hamberger Flooring in Stephanskirchen and later expanded to include the group of companies. Hamberger also organizes company runs. Hamberger has been cooperating with the Technical University of Rosenheim since the 2018 winter semester and is organizing a joint university seminar for the first time.
