Hamburg is a borough in Berks County in the US state of Pennsylvania . 4289 inhabitants live in Hamburg. The population density is 881.6 inhabitants / km².

Hamburg is located in eastern Pennsylvania and is the northernmost borough of the county. Hamburg lies on the Schuylkill River and is surrounded by farmland. The village is 15 miles north of Reading and 69 miles west of Philadelphia . Hamburg has an area of 5.2 km², of which 0.4 km² is water.
history
Hamburg was founded under the name Kaerchertown by Martin Kaercher Jr. in 1787 . The current name comes from German immigrants and is derived from the northern German city of Hamburg .

Interstate 78 and US Highway 22 run through Hamburg in an east-west direction ; the Pennsylvania State Route 61 leads in a north-south direction west on settlement area over.
