Hammerson plc is a real estate and investment company from Great Britain , which was listed on the London Stock Exchange in the leading index FTSE 100 . The company is headquartered in London at 10 Grosvenor Street.
In August 2016, Hammerson announced that its shares would also be listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange . The market capitalization on the London Stock Exchange was the beginning of August 2016 about 4.3 billion pounds sterling .
history
The company was founded by Lewis Hammerson who invested in real estate and converted houses into apartments in 1942. His company LW Hammerson & Co expanded into commercial real estate in 1948 and became a public company in 1954. The first steps outside the UK in the 1960s were in Australia , New Zealand and the United States . In the 1970s, the group moved back to the continent in Great Britain. Brent Cross shopping center in London was developed, the first large indoor shopping center in the country. In the nineties, the activities outside Europe were sold and additional properties in Europe were acquired. In 2003 the Bullring shopping center opened in Birmingham , one of the UK's largest retail centers.
