The Handball Oberliga Sachsen is the fourth highest division in German men's and women's handball. With the introduction of the new regional and upper leagues, the Saxon champions no longer rise directly to the regional league, but have to play a promotion place with the champions of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The two relegated from the league were incorporated into the association league. 14 teams played for the Saxony championship and for promotion to the third-class regional league. The table leader after the 26th matchday was automatically Sachsenmeister 2010. In the men’s VfL Waldheim 54 and Zwönitzer HSV 1928 rose from the association league to the upper league. The SC DHfK Leipzig was relegated from the regional league. From the 2010/11 season onwards, the upper leagues of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia were merged to form the newly formed Upper German League . But there is still a Sachsenliga as the fifth highest division, which is located between the Oberliga Mitteldeutschland and the Association League.
The champions of the upper leagues of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia played a free place for the 3rd league in a relegation round. The two losers of the relegation round were incorporated into the new Oberliga Mitteldeutschland. The first leg took place on May 8, 2010. The second leg took place on May 9, 2010.
