The STP 500 is a NASCAR Sprint Cup race held at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville , Virginia , a track owned by the International Speedway Corporation .

For the first time the race was held in the NASCAR Strictly Stock season 1949 , the first ever NASCAR season. The name of the race has changed many times over the years. In 2007 the Goody's Cool Orange 500 was only the second race with the new Car of Tomorrow .
