Research and Teaching

During the 1970s, Bommert initially turned to the subject areas of psychotherapy and psychodiagnostics . Here his research focus was on the identification and empirical recording of effective factors of conversation psychotherapy , whose development, foundation and dissemination he also significantly influenced as a trainer and temporary chairman of the society for scientific conversation psychotherapy . From the mid-1980s, Bommert then focused his activities on the field of media psychology . In the context of viewer research , on the basis of empirical studies on the conveyance of information on television, he demonstrated that the inclusion of knowledge, data and experience from empirical psychology is indispensable here too, for example when it comes to well-founded program planning (e.g. attractiveness, information content, Comprehensibility of program content for specific target groups) or about optimizing the practical work of journalists in areas such as moderation, interviews, talk shows, research etc. by including psychological aspects. Bommert also acted as a trainer, moderator and coach for TV journalists. One of his students is the WDR presenter Jürgen Domian , who learned the basics of the questioning technique used for his live interview show Domian as part of his WDR training at Bommert.
