Hannes Paul Schmid (born November 19, 1980 in Bruneck ) is a former Italian ski racer and comes from Terenten in the Puster Valley . The South Tyrolean competed (almost) exclusively in his special discipline, slalom .

biography

On December 26th, 1995 the Pustertal started his international skiing career in Abtenau in the Salzburger Land in an FIS race in the giant slalom , but did not reach the finish. On March 21, 2001, the South Tyrolean Italian champion in slalom in Ponte di Legno . In the same year Schmid celebrated his World Cup debut on November 25, 2001 in Aspen , Colorado, in slalom, where he was eliminated in the first run. The man from Terento finally won his first World Cup points in the 2002/03 season on December 16, 2002 in Sestriere in Piedmont in a knockout slalom with 28th place. In the same season, Schmid also contested the 37th Alpine World Ski Championships in 2003 in St Moritz and did not finish the slalom on February 16, 2003.

In the following seasons, the Pusterer won World Cup points again and again. In the 2003/04 season Schmid achieved his best overall World Cup result with 95th place. In the same season on November 19, 2003, he finished 8th in slalom at the Alpine Nor-Am Cup in Winter Park , Colorado, and came 91st in the overall standings.

On January 24th, 2006 Schmid achieved his best World Cup result in Schladming in Styria and was among the "Top Ten" in a World Cup race for the first and only time in the night slalom. After this season he did not reach any more World Cup points. In the same season, however, he started in the XX. 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where he finished 39th in slalom on February 25, 2006 in Sestriere.

Hannes Paul Schmid ended his career as a ski racer in 2008 after he was eliminated from the Italian Championships in Bardonecchia on March 30, 2008 in his last slalom in the first run.

Schmid has been managing director of MH Immobilien Invest GmbH since 2018, alongside the Austrian ski racer Manfred Pranger .
