Hannes Schwarz
Hannes Schwarz (born April 27, 1926 in Anger near Weiz in Styria , † June 15, 2014 in Weiz) was an Austrian painter .
life and work
Schwarz attended elementary school in Anger and the first grade of secondary school in Weiz, where he also learned the violin. In 1939 he was accepted into the NS-Ordensburg Sonthofen , where he was exposed to intense ideological indoctrination, but was given special support in the musical and artistic field. As a cellist he was active in the school orchestra of the Ordensburg and was used on orchestral tours through Germany and the occupied territories. He graduated from high school in Sonthofen and was admitted to the Stuttgart Art Academy , but was soon called up for military service. The war and the collapse of the Nazi state shattered his previous worldview.
In 1945 he began an intensive intellectual debate which led to a complete reorientation and which was determined by existentialism through studying the writings of Martin Heidegger , Karl Jaspers and Albert Camus . In the following years, Schwarz also dealt with the work of Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno . In order to be able to live, he trained to be a primary school teacher, and later he became a secondary school teacher and high school professor. He started painting again.
In 1948, Schwarz met Anton Kolig . The friendship lasted until Kolig's death; the two exchanged lively letters with each other. In 1950 he married. In 1952 the artist visited Maria Marc , Franz Marc's widow . Schwarz saw original works by the artists' association Blauer Reiter and made contact with Günther Franke and Fritz Winter . In 1955 the writings of Schopenhauer , Kolakowski and Wittgenstein gained importance for him alongside those of the existentialists and the Frankfurt School. He completed a study on the pedagogical in Robert Reininger's philosophy of values in the field of existential thinking . In 1958, Schwarz received the Styrian Promotion Prize for a stay in Paris, where he met Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler . In 1959 his daughter Reingard was born. From 1960 onwards, Schwarz dealt intensively with the writings of Franz Kafka . In 1980 he went on a big trip to Spain , which also had an impact on his works. During this time he painted landscapes. In 1981 he was given the professional title of Professor . From 1984, after retiring as a high school professor at the BG / BRG Weiz, he painted intensively again, which he had to stop a few years before his death for health reasons. There is a permanent exhibition in Admont Abbey .
Awards
In 1982 he was awarded the Styrian Prize for Fine Arts . In 1996 he was awarded the ring of honor for his services to the city of Weiz, and in 2006 he was awarded the honorary citizenship of the city of Weiz.
