Hannes Weikert

Hannes Weikert (born July 7, 1918 in Nieder Langenau ; † September 9, 1980 in Micheldorf in Upper Austria ) was a German artist and university professor .

Life

education

Raised in the Giant Mountains , he studied at the Art Academy in Prague after graduating from high school . When the Second World War broke out , studies were interrupted in 1939. In the winter semester of 1941/42 he was able to continue his education as a student at the University of Art Education in Berlin. After being seriously wounded, his left leg had to be amputated. In the summer of 1945 he was released from British captivity.

Weikert resumed his studies in Hamburg and enrolled for four semesters at the University of Fine Arts (painting class) and at the university (archeology, art history, history). After moving to his parents who moved to Bavaria in 1947, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he passed the state examination for artistic teaching at grammar schools in 1948. In 1949 he passed the state examination for high schools. In the same year he married the opera and concert singer Rita Steininger .

Professional career

After working as an art and home educator at the Marquartstein State School Home from 1949 to 1953, Hannes Weikert worked at the Old Realgymnasium in Munich until 1960. In 1961 he was appointed lecturer for art and craft education at the University of Education in Regensburg. From 1962 to 1967 he directed advanced training courses at the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture . From 1962 to 1969 he was chairman of the working committee of the Regensburg Art and Trade Association .

From 1971 he taught as an honorary professor for art education in the educational sciences department at the University of Regensburg . At the Hildesheim University of Applied Sciences he worked as a guest lecturer in the field of art education in the 1978/79 winter semester. At the same time, Professor Weikert began the interdisciplinary cooperation, bringing together theory and practice, with Professor Jörg Traeger , who headed the art history department at the University of Regensburg. This fruitful cooperation was suddenly ended by the accidental death of Hannes Weikert on the return trip from his summer studio in Styria in a traffic accident in Micheldorf / Upper Austria on September 9, 1980.

“Weikert preferred painting and graphics, because he was of the opinion that these, more than other genres of art, enabled subjective and individual design and thus enabled the 'mastering of immediate being'. In doing so, he broke through the boundaries of the individual categories by mixing graphic and painting techniques, which in turn were split up by different uses of materials and different application media. From the point of view of his career it can be understood that for him a work of art could not be created without thought, study and deep understanding. "(Dr. Xaver Luderböck)
