Hanno Pevkur (born April 2, 1977 in Iisaku , Ida-Viru County , Estonia ) is an Estonian politician . Pevkur has been a member of the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Estonian Eesti Reformierakond ) since 2000 , of which he was chairman from January 2017 to April 2018. From March 2014 to November 2016 he was Estonian Minister of the Interior.

Life

Hanno Pevkur graduated from high school in Järva-Jaani in 1995 . Until 1998 he studied law at the Tallinn School of Economics, and in 2002 he graduated from the University of Tartu . In 1998/99, Pevkur worked as a lawyer for the municipal administrations of Järva-Jaani, Koeru and Kareda before he worked in a private law firm in 1999/2000.

Political activity

From 2000 to 2005, Pevkur held various positions in the Tallinn Nõmme district administration , including from 2003 to 2005 the office of district mayor. In March 2005 he was one of the deputy mayors of the Estonian capital Tallinn for a few days before he was advisor to the Estonian Justice Minister Rein Lang from 2005 to 2007 .

From April 2007 to February 2009 Pevkur was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). On February 23, 2009, he succeeded Maret Maripuu as Estonian Minister of Social Affairs in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip . On December 10, 2012, Pevkur changed the department as the new Estonian Minister of Justice. From March 2014 to November 2016, Pevkur was Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Estonia. He then returned to Parliament as a member of parliament. After Taavi Rõivas resigned , he was elected chairman of the Reform Party on January 7, 2017. In April 2018 he was replaced in this position by Kaja Kallas .

Private

Hanno Pevkur is married and has a son and a daughter. He is the President of the Estonian Volleyball Federation.
