Rein Lang (Stockholm, 2011)

Rein Lang (born July 4, 1957 in Tartu ) is an Estonian politician . He was Minister of Culture of the Republic of Estonia from April 2011 to December 2013 . Lang has been a member of the liberal reform party ( Reformierakond ) since 1995 .

Life

Rein Lang grew up in Finland , where his father worked as a Soviet diplomat. He graduated from Tartu University in 1980 with a law degree . When Estonian regained independence, he first went into the private sector. In 1992 he founded the first private radio company in Estonia. Lang was Deputy Mayor of Tallinn from 2001 to 2003 . From 2003 to 2005 he was a member of the Estonian parliament, among other things as deputy parliamentary president and chairman of the European committee. He was an Estonian member of the European Convention .

From February 21 to April 13, 2005, Lang was brief foreign minister in the Juhan Parts government . On April 13, 2005, he became Minister of Justice in the government of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip .

In April 2011, Lang switched to the post of Minister of Culture in the government . In November 2013, he was heavily criticized by the opposition and journalists' associations for interfering in internal affairs of the state-sponsored cultural newspaper Sirp . Lang resigned from his post as Minister of Culture a month later. He has been a member of parliament again since then.

Private life

Lang lives in an illegitimate partnership and has a daughter.
