Jaan Manitski (born March 7, 1942 in Viinistu , then Kõnnu municipality, today Kuusalu municipality , Harju County / Estonia ) is an Estonian businessman, politician and one of the most important art patrons in Estonia. He was Foreign Minister of the Republic of Estonia in 1992.

Sweden

Shortly after the birth of Jaan Manitski's parents in 1943, they managed to escape into exile in Sweden from the approaching Red Army during World War II .

Jaan Manitski graduated from Gothenburg Business School in 1968 . From 1968 to 1976 he worked for the IBM group before he took up a position at Swedbank in Stockholm from 1976 to 1978 . From 1978 to 1988 he was the founder and managing director of Infina AB and Independent . Among other things, was the manager of the band ABBA . From 1989 to 1991 he worked as a consultant for the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management in Brussels before moving to his homeland, Estonia.

Politician

From April to October 1992, the non-party Jaan Manitski was Foreign Minister of the Republic of Estonia shortly after Estonian regained independence. He was one of the confidants of then President Lennart Meri , especially in the early 1990s .

From 1992 to 1995 Jaan Manitski was chairman of the supervisory board of the Estonian privatization agency. Since 1995 he has been involved in several companies as an entrepreneur, including as a member of the supervisory board and co-owner of the Estonian press group Eesti Päevaleht AS .

Jaan Manitski is married and has six children. In his charitable work, he is particularly dedicated to his hometown Viinistu on the Gulf of Finland . He is the founder of the local art museum with an impressive collection of Estonian art. The former fish factory in the town was transformed by Manitski into a cultural center with fine arts, a theater, a concert hall, a restaurant and a hotel.
