August Koern

August Koern (born April 27, 1900 on the Liigu farm in the village of Uue-Võidu, today Karula, Saarepeedi rural community , Viljandi district , Estonia ; † January 11, 1989 in Copenhagen / Denmark ) was an Estonian diplomat. He was Foreign Minister of the Estonian government in exile from March 1, 1964 to June 3, 1982 .

After school, August Koern volunteered in the Estonian War of Independence against Soviet Russia . Then he studied from 1920 to 1923 philosophy and 1923-1927 jurisprudence . From 1929 he worked for the Estonian Foreign Ministry, among others at the Estonian legation in Berlin , later in Warsaw and from 1939 as chargé d'affaires in Copenhagen . After the occupation of Estonia by the Soviet Union , Koern remained politically active for Estonia in exile.
