history

In the 1960s and 1970s , a large housing estate in the typical style of the time was built in the east of the district with up to nineteen-story high-rise buildings and dense buildings. From the beginning, this settlement was closely linked to the establishment of the Hannover Medical School , which was built from 1965 to 1978 in the west of the Roderbruch. The large housing estate was planned as the primary housing estate for MHH employees.

Over the course of many years, the large housing estate was further densified with smaller, more modern residential buildings. In 1980 the Roderbruchmarkt was built , south of the Nussriede. This consists of a shopping street and a market square and thus represents the center of the district.

The Roderbruch has long been considered a problem area. Nevertheless, city planners came to a positive result with regard to the goal of bringing living and working closer together.
