The IGS Roderbruch is an integrated comprehensive school in Hanover , which is located in the Roderbruch district within the Groß-Buchholz district.

description

The IGS Roderbruch is the only state integrated comprehensive school in Lower Saxony where pupils are taught from the first grade to the Abitur . It has existed since 1973 and is the largest general education school in the state capital of Hanover and one of the largest schools in the state.

About half of the upper level is attended by students who come from other schools, especially the IGS without upper secondary school. There is a student council at IGS Roderbruch.

School profile

The state school authority of Lower Saxony certified the IGS Roderbruch in 2009: “Coexistence at school is particularly characterized by mutual respect, a comprehensive ethos of integration and the goal of developing the individual's learning and development potential. In addition, other special concepts were developed and implemented: integration classes , Comenius projects , sustainable environmental education, research and music classes and early foreign language learning. "

inclusion

The integration of people with physical disabilities has been promoted through appropriate structural and educational concepts since the school was founded. Most of the buildings on the school's 28 hectare site are handicapped accessible. From 1981 to 2011 the school had a teacher who was dependent on a wheelchair. A wheelchair-using teacher is still working. The number of students who rely on wheelchairs or walking aids fluctuates, but is always in the lower double-digit range.

In the course of the legal obligation to be inclusive, the number of pupils who have recognized special educational needs is also increasing. In 2013, the city of Hanover chose IGS Roderbruch as the "focus school for pupils who need support in the area of physical and motor development". But, of course, students who need support in the areas of vision, hearing, language, social-emotional development, learning and intellectual development are also accepted and promoted.

Environmental school

In 1997/98, the IGS received awards for the ecological redesign of the school premises and twice in the period 2000 to 2004 for energy management in the context of the “ Environmental School in Europe ” tender .

School newspaper

IGS Roderbruch has been publishing a newly designed school newspaper at irregular intervals since 2010. Since the school's trademark and building facades are "yellow", the name "jaundice" was born. The school newspaper has been replaced by the school blog "YellowPost" since the 2016/17 school year.

Comenius projects

With the topics "Medicinal plants in European cultures" since 1997 and "European synaesthesia: music, movement, color, shape and feelings" since 2006, the school participates in the Comenius program . The current Comenius project 2012-2014 is entitled “Scientific Knowledge of the Baroque Era: a Joining European Clamp”.

In-school energy management

IGS Roderbruch has been participating in the GSE project (group internal energy management ) since 1995 with students, teachers and school staff . As a result, in 2001 it was possible to save almost 50% of the school's energy expenditure through sensible use of energy. The work on various GSE projects at the school was rewarded in 2000 by winning the 2nd prize at the Energy Globe Award .

The trip is prepared and followed up in workshops and other events. It is financed by sponsors such as the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation , members of the Bundestag of the SPD and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen as well as the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge . There are also events on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27th.
