Hans-Dieter Bader

Hans-Dieter Bader (born February 16, 1938 in Stuttgart ) is a German opera singer (tenor).

Life

Hans-Dieter Bader grew up with five other siblings in Stuttgart and received his first musical lessons on the trumpet . After completing an apprenticeship in toolmaking , he studied singing in his hometown , discovered and supported by the singing teacher Rudolf Gehrung.

He got his first engagement at the Württemberg State Opera in Stuttgart and made his debut in 1960 as Arturo in the opera Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti .

First prize at the Stuttgart Music Competition was followed by engagements at the Braunschweig State Theater and in Münster in 1962–1965 , before he moved to the Lower Saxony State Opera in Hanover in the 1965/66 season, where he was a permanent member of the ensemble in major roles in the German hero tenor and in the Italian youthful hero tenor could be heard. Guest performances and a total repertoire of 90 roles have taken him to La Scala in Milan as well as to stages in Belgrade , Vienna , Amsterdam , Hamburg , Berlin , Denmark , Japan and Taipei . He went on concert tours to South Africa , Jordan , Lesotho , Chile , Brazil , France , Paraguay and Holland .

Another part of his work was radio and television appearances. In 1981 the Lower Saxony State Opera in Hanover awarded him the title of chamber singer .

On his travels Bader repeatedly showed interest in and commitment to intercultural musical exchange and the promotion of talented young musicians. In 1997, a lectureship took him to Hanoi , where in 1999, thanks to his initiative and help, the opera house modeled on the Opéra Bastille was reopened. The opening performance was Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber in German.

In 1996 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his social commitment and benefit concerts . The singer has been married to Ulla Bader since 1966. The couple lives in Langenhagen .

The tenor has released the complete recordings of the operas Sly by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari and Feuersnot by Richard Strauss , as well as records and CDs with popular arias and duets.
