Hans-Dieter Pophal
Hans-Dieter Pophal (born November 22, 1937 in Berlin ) is a German art jumper and trainer.
Athletic career
Hans-Dieter Pophal was GDR champion several times in jumping from the 3-meter board in 1958, 1960-1967. At the European Swimming Championships in Leipzig in 1962 , he was runner-up on the 3-meter board.
His mother-in-law Olga Jensch-Jordan trained him at TSC Berlin , where he achieved eighth place at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome . His greatest sporting success was fourth place at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo .
In 1963 he had already been awarded the title of Honored Master of Sport . He later worked as a trainer at TSC Berlin and as a swimming instructor.
In 1994, Hans-Dieter Pophal became the senior double world champion at the fifth FINA senior world championships in Montreal in 1994 . He set world records on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. He was also runner-up in the 10-meter tower world championship. At the VII. Senior World Championships of the FINA in Casablanca in 1998 he was three-time senior world champion (1-m board, 3-m board, 10-m tower). At the VIII. Senior World Championships of the FINA in Munich 2000 he was again senior World champion in his age group. In 2003 he was three-time European champion (1-meter board, 3-meter board, 10-meter tower) at the IX. Senior European Championships in Millau / Montauban
In 1999 he took part in the 77th Annual Gymnastics Festival in Freyburg (Unstrut) and was second as a gymnast in the B 60 age group.
Private
Pophal is married to Heidi Jensch , the daughter of Olga Jensch-Jordan, and has two daughters. In the early 2000s, he was promoting Doppelherz .
