Hans-Dieter Wöhler

Hans-Dieter Wöhler (born July 29, 1941 ) is a former German handball player .

Life

Wohler was 1960 in Doberlug-Kirchhain  the High School . He played handball and did athletics . After finishing school, Wöhler worked in the chemical combine in Böhlen as a boiler attendant and played handball for the local club. In 1961 he began studying at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig , the 1.88 meter tall backcourt player joined the handball team of the SC DHfK Leipzig . In 1966 he won the European Cup with the Saxons under coach Hans-Gert Stein . With the national field handball team of the GDR, he became vice world champion in 1966. He completed his studies at DHfK in 1967 with a thesis on field handball. In 1969 he resigned from competitive sports due to an injury.

Professionally, Wöhler worked in Leipzig as a sports teacher at the University of Construction (later: University of Technology, Economics and Culture Leipzig). In 2006 he resigned from university. In honor of Wöhler, the "Hans-Dieter-Wöhler-Cup" (HDW-Cup) sports tournament is held at the Leipzig University of Technology, Economics and Culture.

In 2007 he supported the efforts to bring men's handball back to the top level in Leipzig by advising those responsible at SG Motor Gohlis-Nord to contact the SC DHfK.
