Hans-Georg Ziebertz
Hans-Georg Ziebertz (born March 8, 1956 in Veen (Alps) ) is a theologian and educational and social scientist. He teaches and researches as a professor for religious education (practical theology) at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg .
Career
From 1977 to 1983 Hans-Georg Ziebertz studied Catholic theology , sociology and educational science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . He completed the subjects of theology and educational science with a diploma. He has held various positions on a voluntary basis in church youth work, most recently as the diocesan chairman of the Bund der Deutschen Katholischen Jugend (BDKJ), an umbrella organization of Catholic youth associations in the diocese of Münster . After completing his studies, he was a consultant at the Federal Office for Catholic Youth Work in Düsseldorf from 1984 to 1990. At the same time he started working in 1986 as an external doctoral student at the University of Nijmegen (Netherlands) with a dissertation. In Nijmegen, under the supervision of Professor Johannes A. van der Ven , he got to know the approach of empirical theology and received his doctorate in 1990 with an empirical thesis on moral education in value pluralism at the theological faculty. In 1993 the doctorate in educational sciences followed at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and in 1994 the habilitation at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .
From 1990 to 1995 Ziebertz was a research assistant in the Department of Practical Theology at the University of Nijmegen , and in 1995 he was appointed to the Chair of Practical Theology and head of the Institute for Practical Theology at the University of Utrecht . In 1998 Ziebertz received offers to Bochum and Würzburg and moved to the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg as a professor for religious education , where he further developed the approach of empirical religious education . Ziebertz is considered one of the leading empirical practical theologians.
research
Hans-Georg Ziebertz's research focuses on interculturality and interreligiousness , Islam and Christianity , religion and modernity , religious socialization and empirical youth research . In 2003 the empirical youth study Religious Signatures appeared and since 2005 three volumes Youth in Europe , in which the results of an international youth study among 10,000 young people in ten European countries are presented. In these studies, young people were asked about their life prospects and world views. Since 2012, Ziebertz has been head of an international empirical research program Religion and Human Rights , in which around 30 countries are involved.
Memberships
Hans-Georg Ziebertz is a member of the German Working Group for Religious Education , the Sociology of Religion Section of the German Society for Sociology (DGS), the International Academy of Practical Theology and the International Seminar on Religious Education and Values .
From 1996 to 1997 and again from 2012 to 2013 he was a member of a committee for the evaluation of theological faculties in the Netherlands and Belgium, from 2001 to 2002 he was Rapporteur General at the invitation of the Stability Pact Sarajevo and Unesco in an international advisory group for intercultural education participated in schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 2004 to 2005 he was an expert at the invitation of the Council of Europe and a member of the program Intercultural Education in the South Caucasus Region , from 2005 to 2011 he was a member of the governing body of the National Research Program Religion, State and Society of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), from 2005 to 2008 he worked on the Steering Committee of the TRES-networks Teaching Religion in a multicultural Europe (EU-Socrates program) and from 2006 to 2010 he was President of the International Society of Empirical Research in Theology (ISERT). From 2008 to 2012 he was a member of the Theology Review Board of the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Ziebertz is among other things editor of the book series Empirische Theologie , International Practical Theology and Religious Pedagogy in Plural Society . a. member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Empirical Theology , the Journal of Beliefs and Values and the magazine Hikma .
Awards
In 2013, Hans-Georg Ziebertz received the renowned Swedish-German Research Award , which is jointly awarded by the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation . This award is linked to an invitation to a research stay at Uppsala University .
