Stephan Leimgruber

Stephan Leimgruber (born October 13, 1948 in Windisch , Canton Aargau , Switzerland ) is a Swiss Roman Catholic theologian and emeritus university professor.

Live and act

Leimgruber studied theology and philosophy at the Universities of Leuven (Belgium), Lucerne and Munich . There he obtained the degree of licentiate in philosophy in 1973 . In 1976 the doctorate in religious education followed .

In the same year he received by Bishop Otto Wüst the priesthood for the Diocese of Basel . He then worked in the parish of St. Michael in Zug .

From 1980 to 1992 he worked as a religion teacher at the canton school and at the Solothurn teacher training college and also worked as a subsidiary in Solothurn .

In 1989 he qualified as a professor at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Munich in the subject of religious education.

In 1992 he was appointed professor for religious education and catechetics at the theological faculty in Paderborn , where he taught until 1998.

Since 1998 he has been Professor of Religious Education and Didactics of Religious Education at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Munich. From 2003 to 2005 he was dean of this faculty. He retired at the end of the 2013/14 winter semester.

In February 2014 he switched to the St. Beat Seminary in Lucerne as a spiritual director .

In November 2015, the Gesellschaft Freunde Abrahams awarded the Manfred Görg Prize for research on the history of religion and interreligious dialogue to Stephan Leimgruber for his life's work.
