Barbara Peveling

Barbara Peveling (born 1974 in Siegen ) is a German ethnologist , author and journalist who also works in France .

Life

Barbara Peveling grew up in the Rhineland and Switzerland and worked from 1995 to 1997 in a socio-educational institution in Be'er Scheva, Israel . She studied in Tübingen and Paris, initially with Uwe Kolbe at the Literature and Theater Studio at the University of Tübingen . For her doctorate in anthropology with Thomas Hauschild , she received graduate funding from the University of Tübingen and the Egide scholarship from the French embassy in Berlin . She did her PhD in history with Sylvie Anne Goldberg at EHESS in Paris .

As an ethnologist, she works on the topics of migration and religion in the Mediterranean region. Her dissertation “Between Orient and Occident. Identity and Difference of North African Jews in France ”was awarded the Manfred Görg Junior Prize in Munich in 2015. Among other prizes, she was also a finalist at the Open Mike 2006.

Peveling lives in Germany and France.
