Self-image

As a scientific society, the association wants to "convey the findings of academic research work (...) to a broader public". It was founded by the Catholic theologian and Egyptologist Manfred Görg, who died in 2012, and the Egyptologist and orientalist Stefan Jakob Wimmer . The Friends of Abraham link the findings of research into the history of religion with the current interreligious dialogue. The preoccupation with the ancient Orient, Palestine and Egypt, before the so-called Abrahamic religions emerged, should show common roots from which bridges for the interreligious dialogue in the 21st century could be shown.

tasks

The association publishes scientific and popular writings, supports research projects, organizes lectures, trips and encounters, and supports political engagement such as B. Anti-Pegida rallies or peace initiatives in the Middle East. Manfred Görg published an "interreligious creed", which the friends of Abraham understand as "a mandate and handout for Jews, Christians, Muslims and all who cling to God to approach one another".

Members of the Board of Trustees are Karl-Josef Kuschel , Rabbi Eveline Goodman-Thau , Imam Benjamin Idriz , Regional Bishop a. D.
