Hans-Hermann Herbst (born February 15, 1951 ) is a former German football player who was active from 1974 to 1977 for FC Vorwärts Frankfurt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of GDR football . Herbst is a four-time GDR junior national player.

Athletic career

As a member of 1. FC Magdeburg , autumn 1967 was appointed to the squad of the GDR junior national team. By 1968 he played four internationals in which he was used as a striker. After he had become eligible to play for the men's division, he played for Lok Stendal from 1969 to 1971 in the second-rate GDR league . By October 1971 he was used in 27 league games and scored five goals. In November 1971 he was drafted into the National People's Army for military service. There he was able to continue playing soccer with the army sports community Vorwärts Neubrandenburg in the GDR league. Herbst stayed in Neubrandenburg until the end of the 1973/74 season, where he established himself as a regular player with 60 appearances in 66 played point games and became a successful attacking player with 17 goals.

With these achievements, autumn became interesting for the leading football club of the Vorwärts army sports association , the upper division FC Vorwärts Frankfurt. Since he had recently lost three offensive players, he made the move from autumn to Frankfurt for the 1974/75 season. Herbst coped with the move to the top division without difficulty and found his regular place in the attacking midfield. He played 25 of 26 league games in his first league season and was the second best goalscorer for FC Vorwärts with five goals. In the first half of the 1975/76 season, coach Jürgen Großheim used him in all thirteen league games. When Karl Traumann was then used as a coach, Herbst lost his regular place and was only used in seven of the thirteen second round matches, with only three starting eleven. However, he was used in the final of the GDR soccer cup, which Frankfurt lost 3-0 against 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig . After Werner Wolf had taken over the coaching office for the 1976/77 season , Herbst returned to the regular eleven, where he was still used in midfield. Up until the 19th matchday he had only missed one game, after which he was excluded from FC Vorwärts together with his midfield partner Frieder Andrich and banned from the Oberliga and DDR-Liga for 18 months.

After a stopover at the third-class BSG semiconductor factory in Frankfurt , autumn 1978 returned to the GDR league team Lok Stendal. After his suspension he could be used there from December 1978 in the 1st team, and he played all of the remaining eleven point games. Autumn played with Lok Stendal in the GDR league until 1983 and was used in 83 point games. He was only missing 16 matches. Herbst scored a total of 20 goals, and in the 1979/80 season he was the Stendal's top scorer with eleven goals. When Lok Stendal had to relegate from the GDR league after the 1982/83 season, this meant the final farewell to higher-class football for Hans-Hermann Herbst.
