Hans-Jürgen Hundt

Hans-Jürgen Hundt (born July 25, 1909 in Potsdam , † November 12, 1990 in Wiesbaden ) was a German prehistoric archaeologist .

Life

After studying in Berlin , Prague and Marburg , he received his doctorate in 1939 under Gero von Merhart on "The younger Bronze Age in Mecklenburg ". For 1940/41 he was awarded the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute , which he was unable to compete due to the war. After the war he came to the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation in 1950 through a traineeship at the Roman-Germanic Central Museum and a job as a restorer at the Kunstgutlager Schloss Celle (January 25, 1949 to May 20, 1950) , where he was responsible for Straubing , among other things . His work at that time concerned the Cham group of the end Neolithic , which he defined, and the transition from the early to the middle Bronze Age.

In 1952 he became director of the Museum of Prehistory and Early History in Frankfurt am Main , in 1954 he moved to the Roman-Germanic Central Museum in Mainz , where he was director of the prehistory department and head of the workshops until retirement in 1974. In 1962 he became an honorary professor at the University of Mainz .

Hundt became known through his research on the Bronze Age and his textile-archeological research.
