career

With Lüner SV , Sperlich took part in the second-rate Regionalliga West at the end of the 1960s . For the 1970/71 season he moved to the Bundesliga club Hertha BSC . He made his first Bundesliga appearance on the second day of the season when he came on for Franz Brungs in the 65th minute of the game against Bayern Munich . Two game days later, after another substitution, Sperlich scored the winning goal and thus his first Bundesliga goal two minutes before the end of the game against FC Schalke 04 .

Because of his involvement in the Bundesliga scandal , Sperlich was banned from June 21, 1972 to June 20, 1974, but was pardoned in November 1973. During his suspension, he played in South Africa for Durban City , from where he moved to Hamburger SV after his pardon in 1973. He was a member of this for three seasons. After he was often not part of the squad in the 1976/77 season and only played three games over 90 minutes and not scored a single goal, he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga North to Rot-Weiss Essen the following season .
