Hans-Joachim Dunker

Hans-Joachim Dunker (born March 17, 1927 in Concepción , Chile , † August 19, 2005 in Berlin ) was a German diplomat .

After studying philology in Göttingen , Montreal and Bonn and completing his doctorate (the idea of ​​equal partnership and inter-American relations in the 19th and 20th centuries) , Dunker initially worked for the press and information office in Bonn before joining the Foreign Office was transferred. His first assignment took him to the embassy in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil as a press officer . In 1964 he was transferred to the German Embassy in Monrovia , Liberia , as permanent representative . Later he was u. a. at the Bonn headquarters, at the NATO Defense College in Rome and at the embassy in London . From 1980 to 1982 Dunker headed the Luanda Embassy . From 1982 to 1986 he was employed as permanent representative at the German Consulate General in New York , before he took over the management of the Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1986 until he retired in July 1992.

For his work, Dunker u. a. honored with honorary citizenship of the city of Rio de Janeiro and the Brazilian Rio Branco Order .
