Leschnitz began his career in the GDR , where he was a well-known mime. Among other things, he took part in several films in the Polizeiruf 110 series and, due to its breadth, lent his distinctive voice to a number of people in the German versions of foreign productions - mainly cartoon characters, short people and senior citizens. He had his most famous role at the side of Joachim Kaps in the children's program Brummkreisel , where he played the puppet theater resident "Kunibert Männchen" for over ten years.

After the fall of the wall, Leschnitz devoted himself exclusively to work as a voice actor and was mainly heard in series episodes.
