Career

Rauschenbach began his career in 1945 as a trainee at the Fuldaer Volkszeitung, before moving to the Hessischer Rundfunk in 1957 . At first he worked for radio, from 1961 also on television. Later he moderated the Hessenschau and reported in the Wiesbaden studio from the Hessian state parliament . He was also the presenter of the weekly sports program Sportkalender for years .

In 1990 Rauschenbach switched to Eurosport because some political allusions in his comments on sporting events were judged to be too conservative ("They wanted to silence me because I didn't fit into the red-green scheme."). He ended his professional career with German sports television , today Sport1 . There he moderated the very simply produced and staged show Box Classics . Former German boxers were invited to the individual programs. Some, like Peter Weiland or Max Resch , appeared with conspicuous and unsuitable toupees, apparently in order to tease the toupee wearer Rauschenbach, which turned into a running gag of the show.

Hans-Joachim Rauschenbach was the sportscaster scene as " metaphors - Guru ". About the judges in figure skating once he said: "With judges is as with mushrooms - a good ten bad come." During a long program of the Swiss figure skater Karin Iten commented it: not "Who is born as onion, may like a rose in bloom. ”Most of the bon mots he used in his reports came to mind spontaneously.
