Hans-Josef Blumensatt (born May 19, 1950 in Erbach ) is a German lawyer and former Hessian attorney general .

Life

Blumensatt was born on May 19, 1950 in Erbach (Rheingau). After high school in Geisenheim and military service he studied from 1970 at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz Jura and laid there also in 1975 his first legal state exam from. After a legal clerkship in the Wiesbaden district court , the second state examination followed in December 1977.

In 1978 he was appointed judge and in September 1980 public prosecutor at the Darmstadt public prosecutor's office . In January 1981 he was transferred to the Wiesbaden Public Prosecutor's Office. In September 1984 he was seconded to the Hessian Ministry of Justice as a consultant in the criminal law department. In April 1988 he was appointed Government Director and in 1990 Ministerial Councilor. From November 1990 to January 1991 he was head of a working group for the Thuringian Ministry of Justice to rebuild the criminal justice system in Thuringia . In November 1990 he was appointed senior public prosecutor as head of department at the Wiesbaden public prosecutor's office, and in 1999 a second delegation to the Hessian Ministry of Justice as head of department in the penal system . In 2000 he became the chief public prosecutor as head of the Wiesbaden public prosecutor's office. On February 1, 2009, he replaced Dieter Anders as attorney general and became head of the attorney general in Frankfurt am Main . Hans-Josef Blumensatt retired on October 1st, 2015, and was succeeded by Helmut Fünfsinn .

Blumensatt is married and has two children.
