Helmut Fünfsinn (born July 4, 1954 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German lawyer. He has been the Hessian public prosecutor since 2015 .

Live and act

Fünfsinn was born the son of a federal railroad employee. After graduating from high school and completing community service, he began studying law in 1974 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He also attended lectures in sociology and business administration. In 1980 he passed his first state examination in law and completed his legal clerkship in Frankfurt. From October 1982 to March 1983 he was employed as a research assistant in the law department at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. In February 1983 he passed the second state examination and then worked as a research assistant at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main until August 1986, among other things as an assistant to Wolfgang Naucke . At the same time he was writing his doctoral thesis on the dogmatic topic “The structure of negligent infringement offenses through omission in criminal law”, with which he received his doctorate in 1985 in the field of law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University.

In 1986, Fünfsinn became a probationary judge in a civil chamber at the Frankfurt am Main regional court , in 1987 he was at the Königstein im Taunus local court and in 1988, again at the Frankfurt am Main regional court, he was appointed judge for life.

Since 1992, Fünfsinn has been a part-time managing director of the Expert Commission for Crime Prevention of the Hessian State Government (State Prevention Council) and a member of the Advisory Board of the German Forum for Crime Prevention (DFK).

Academic activity

After Fünfsinn had worked as a lecturer at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University from 1988/89, he was awarded the academic title of honorary professor in June 2014 . He teaches at the Institute for Criminal Science and Legal Philosophy in Frankfurt. Fünfsinn publishes continuously on substantive criminal law, criminal procedural and criminal policy issues, legal policy and crime prevention, which are related to his full-time work in the ministry.
