Hans-Josef Dreckmann (born September 17, 1938 in Oberhausen ) is a German television journalist.

Life

Dreckmann, the son of a worker, studied Latin and German at the Universities of Münster and Munich from 1958 to 1964 . In 1967 he received his doctorate .

From November 1964 to 1971 he worked as an editor for Ruhr Nachrichten in Dortmund , where he made it to the position of head of the news department. In 1971 he went to WDR . From August 1974 to 1980 he was a correspondent for ARD television in Brussels and from 1981 to 1987 in Africa ( Nairobi ). In 1987 he became deputy head of the WDR in Cologne. From 1991 he worked again as an ARD correspondent, first in Moscow , from 1994 to 2001 again in Africa. In 2000 he did not meet the expectation of the responsible ARD editorial team to deliver a “disaster report” from Ethiopia , because according to his research there was local hunger and malnutrition, but no famine.
