Marler Media Prize Human Rights

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Marl Media Prize for Human Rights (M3) is given as a non-material prize by the German section of Amnesty International to media contributions that “ deal with the topic of human rights in an exceptional way ”. The award, launched in 2001 by Amnesty International in the Ruhr area center as the Marl Television Prize for Human Rights based on the Grimme Prize , was originally awarded every two years exclusively to television programs . Since 2012 it has been honoring radio and television contributions alternately and has therefore been given its new name.

The jury is made up of members from Amnesty International. Current, thematically appropriate productions can be submitted by public and private media companies or nominated by members of Amnesty International.

background

“Information pours down on us with tremendous force. It is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the important and the less important, the unimportant or even the useless. In this time of rapid information consumption, we want to highlight the information that is important to us in terms of human rights. To honor the work of the people who collect this information, put it on paper, let us hear it, translate it into images, that was the idea for this award. "

- Rolf Opalka, district spokesman for Amnesty International, district 3469 Ruhrgebiet Mitte : Marler media prize for human rights

The undoped Marl Media Prize for Human Rights was created to honor media professionals who deal with the topic of human rights in their contributions. Possible criteria for the award-worthiness of a contribution are the conveyance of a startling message, the creation of documentation with a lasting effect or the successful implementation of the topic in a fictitious action. However, artistic or journalistic criteria such as a convincing performance or speaking, a special presentation, an extraordinary interview or a remarkable commentary are also taken into account.

Divisions

The Marl Media Prize is awarded annually in several categories to editors, authors, speakers and directors. In addition, an honorary award for “a special contribution” and a special award for “a deserving journalist” can be given.
