Hans-Peter Siebenhaar

Hans-Peter Siebenhaar (born May 1, 1962 in Thurn , Forchheim district ) is a German journalist and book author .

Life

After graduating from high school, Siebenhaar studied political science, theater and communication studies, sociology and modern history in Erlangen , Kalamazoo (USA) and Madrid . From the age of 17 he worked as a freelancer for the Nürnberger Nachrichten and the Franconian Day . From 1985 to 1988 he was a freelancer for Bayerischer Rundfunk .

After obtaining his master's degree (MA) in 1989, he volunteered at the Franconian Day in Bamberg. From 1991 to 1993 he was editor of the Evangelical Press Association for Bavaria ( Sonntagsblatt , epd ) in Munich. In 1994 he received his doctorate in Erlangen-Nuremberg on European media policy in political science and then went to the European Parliament in Luxembourg as a Robert Schuman scholarship holder. From 1995 to 2000 he was the political and economic editor at Fränkischer Tag. In 2000 Siebenhaar moved to the Handelsblatt in Düsseldorf. There he worked as a media expert. From 2006 to 2011 he ran the “Mediawatcher” blog on Handelsblatt.com, from 2006 to 2008 he produced the media podcast Bel Etage, and from 2013 to 2019 he wrote the media column Medien-Kommissar on Handelsblatt.com. In 2013 he moved to Vienna as a correspondent for the Handelsblatt for Austria and Southeast Europe. In February 2015 Siebenhaar was elected to the board of the Association of Foreign Press in Vienna. In December 2015, he replaced the ARD correspondent Susanne Glass as President of the foreign press in Vienna and was re-elected for another two years in 2019.

Siebenhaar writes travel books with a focus on southern Germany, Greece and Spain. He has been an author for Michael Müller Verlag since 1983 .

With his book “Die Nimmersatten” on the occasion of the changeover of broadcasting financing for ( ARD ) and ( ZDF ), he is considered a critic of the budget fee that has been in force since 2013. In order to reduce costs for citizens and companies, he calls for a streamlining of public service broadcasting, more transparency in finances and a de-politicization of the supervisory bodies.

Austria

In his book "Austria - The Torn Republic", Siebenhaar pleads for a comprehensive modernization of the Alpine republic through extensive debureaucratisation, deep reforms in economic, labor and pension policy and an economization of political action. He criticizes the fact that uninhibited populism has poisoned the political and objective atmosphere.

Awards

In 2018 Siebenhaar received the Hugo Junkers Prize from the German aerospace press for the Eurofighter / Airbus report "We're waging a small war again" together with six other Handelsblatt authors. In 2020 Siebenhaar was awarded the second LGT Media Prize from the Bank of the Princely House of Liechtenstein for the Handelsblatt cover story "Roland Berger's self-deception. The star consultant, his Nazi father and guilt of the German economy" along with four other Handelsblatt authors.
